How it Works

SMT is a highly specialized absorber formulation for use in sludge and manure treatment. It combines powerful absorption capacity with biological compatibility to deliver a comprehensive treatment approach. SMT not only captures and stabilizes contaminants, but also transforms the treated material into nutrient-rich, arable soil through microbial activation and natural decomposition processes.

Absorption Mechamism

SMT’s fibrous, porous structure enables it to effectively bind and immobilize a wide range of contaminants, including:

  • Hydrocarbons (fuels, oils, solvents)

  • Heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury)

  • Pesticides and persistent organic pollutants (POPs)

  • Odorous compounds (e.g., volatile fatty acids, sulfur compounds)

Soil Regeneration

SMT not only treats contaminants — it actively contributes to the transformation of waste into biologically productive, arable soil. This is achieved through a synergistic interaction with the indigenous microbial populations found naturally in sludge and manure.

Microbial Activation

Awakens dormant microbes and creates a biologically favorable environment that stimulates rapid microbial reproduction — into the billions. These microbes are essential for breaking down organic matter and converting waste into stable humic substances.

Accelerated Biodegradation

As microbial populations flourish, the degradation of complex organic compounds is significantly accelerated. This leads to a faster and more complete stabilization of the treated material, reducing toxicity while enriching the substrate with bioavailable nutrients.

Support for Plant Growth

The end product is a structurally improved, nutrient-enriched soil amendment capable of supporting vegetation. In trial settings, plant seeds present in the sludge (such as tomato seeds) were observed to germinate and grow, suggesting that SMT creates favourable physical and biological conditions for root development and nutrient cycling.

Sustainable Reuse

By converting treated sludge into a productive growing medium, SMT supports regenerative practices in agriculture, land reclamation, and green infrastructure — turning waste into a renewable resource.
